Christie Duncan

Christie, a former Harris Academy pupil, will graduate this July with an Honours degree in Marketing and Business Management. One of the main reasons she chose Abertay was its proximity to home, allowing her to study while staying connected to her roots in Dundee.

Being close to home and friends made such a difference. It took away a lot of the stress and helped me settle into university life more easily.

Her dissertation focused on the effectiveness of film trailers in generating anticipation ahead of a feature release. Christie designed an online survey to gather audience opinions and combined this with data from a local cinema, where she works part-time.

One of her key findings challenged expectations: while many people say they often arrive late to the cinema, the data showed that most actually arrive on time—meaning trailers are being seen and are a valuable promotional tool.

Looking ahead, Christie plans to continue her work at the cinema while also taking on a marketing consultancy role for a family-run business.
